A sign-up form on your website

A sign-up form lets visitors subscribe to one of your newsletters from your website. Each person confirms by email before they count, so nobody is added without asking.

It needs Email on for your account, or trial mode, and a newsletter online. Read Prepare Email.

Ask Tsurito, for example: “Add a form to subscribe to The Monthly on the home page, and ask for the first name too.”

  • The form asks for the email address, and the first name if you want.
  • You choose its heading, a sentence and the button’s text.
  • Under the button, one line says what the visitor agrees to and that they can leave at any time. That line is always the same and cannot be changed. When your website has a privacy page, it links to it.

Add one form for each newsletter you want to grow, on any page. Publish your website, and the form starts taking sign-ups.

Before publishing, in the preview, sending the form only says “This form works once the website is published.”

  1. They write their address and press the button.
  2. The page says “Check your inbox to confirm your subscription.”
  3. An email from your sending address asks them to confirm, with one button. “If you did not ask for this, ignore this email: nothing will happen.”
  4. The button opens a page with “Confirm my subscription”. After pressing it, the page says, for example, “You are subscribed to The Monthly.”, with a link back to your website.

The link works for 48 hours. After that, the page says so and offers to sign up again.

The answer on your website is always the same, whether the address is new, already subscribed or cannot be written to. Nobody learns who is on your list.

  • The person becomes a contact, or an existing contact gains the newsletter.
  • Their permission reads, for example, “subscribed on Café Lumen, confirmed 18 October 2026”. Its proof keeps when they signed up, from which page and address, the words they agreed to, and when and from where they confirmed. Read What a contact can receive.
  • If someone had left the newsletter, subscribing again and confirming lifts it. Anything else they left stays left.

A newsletter can greet each new subscriber right after they confirm. In Studio, open an email of that newsletter and, in “Edit”, “Your email”, tick “Welcome email”. There is one per newsletter: marking another moves it.

The welcome goes out only while it is Ready. It does not count as a send and is never marked as Sent, so you can change it any time. “A welcome greets and promotes nothing.”

In the Panel, open the newsletter in Email. “Sign-ups” shows:

  • which websites have its form, or “No website has its form yet. Ask Tsurito in Studio to add a sign-up section.”;
  • “Today’s sign-ups” against the day’s limit;
  • who is “Waiting for confirmation”, with when. “Remove” takes one out. “They are not contacts yet. Each one goes away by itself 7 days after its last email.”;
  • the welcome email, or that there is none.
  • A form takes up to 60 sign-ups an hour and 300 a day. Above that, it says “Too many sign-ups right now. Please try again later.” and we write to you once that day.
  • The same address gets at most one confirmation email an hour and three a week.
  • The hosting checks that whoever signs up is a person, and a hidden field catches programs that fill in everything.

The form leaves the page by itself, and comes back on its own, when:

  • Email is not on, or the newsletter is archived;
  • your contacts are full: we write to you, and people already subscribed keep receiving;
  • too many confirmation emails bounce or are marked as spam: we pause the sign-ups and look at it with you. Your newsletters keep sending.

In trial mode, the form takes only addresses of your verified domain and your team’s.
