Hand a website over to your client

You made a website for someone else, in your own account. When it is ready, you give it to them, and it moves to their account when they accept it. You do nothing by hand, and nothing billing-related moves: the client starts their own subscription.

  • The website is free and online. It has been published, it has no subscription and it is not in its 14 days. A website you already pay for cannot be handed over.
  • Prepare its domain, if it has one. On a free website you can leave the client’s domain ready, and it goes with the website. Read Use your own domain.
  • You are the account’s holder. Only the holder hands websites over.
  1. Open the Panel, choose “Websites” and the website.
  2. Choose “Hand over”.
  3. In “Their email”, type the email of the person you made it for.
  4. Press “Send the link”.

In Studio, switch to the Panel at the top of the sidebar for the same place.

Your client gets an email with a link that works once, for 7 days. Until they accept, the website stays yours and you can keep publishing it. Starting its subscription, taking it offline or deleting it wait until you withdraw the hand-over.

The website’s overview and its “Subscription”, in the Panel, say who it is being handed over to and until when.

  • “Send it again” sends a new link valid for another 7 days, once a day at most. The first link stops working.
  • “Withdraw” cancels it. The link stops working and the website stays yours.
  • To send it to another email, withdraw it and send it again.

If 7 days pass without an answer, the link expires, the website stays yours and we write to you. You can send it again whenever you like.

You can send up to 5 hand-over emails a day, resends included.

The link opens a page that says who prepared the website, with its address to see it, its prepared domain and the price of its subscription.

  1. They sign in, or create their account, with the same email the link was sent to.
  2. They tick “I want the subscription to start now. If I withdraw later, I pay only the days used.”
  3. They press “Accept and pay”.

The payment page opens, and the website moves as soon as the payment is confirmed. If they already pay for another website, this one joins their subscription and moves at once.

A website handed over starts with its subscription. There is no trial in a hand-over.

  • Its versions, its address and its statistics
  • Its prepared domain, which switches on with the client’s subscription
  • Its contact form, whose messages then go to the client’s email
  • Visitor numbers, when you switched them on before

Your copy on your computer stays where it is. What happened before the move stays in your account’s history.

When the website moves, you join the client’s team with “Only what is chosen” on that website, at “Edit”, so you can keep working on it. You count in their team, and they can remove you whenever they like. Read Working as a team.

In Studio, the website then appears in the client’s account. Change account at the top of the sidebar to work on it.

If their team is full, the website still moves and you are not added. We tell you both, and the client can invite you later.
